Top South-East Politician: David Nweze Umahi

David Nweze Umahi, a civil engineer by profession, is a prominent Nigerian politician currently serving as the Minister of Works for the Federal Republic of Nigeria, a position he assumed in August 2023.

Prior to his ministerial appointment, Umahi had a distinguished political career within Ebonyi State. He served two terms as the Governor of Ebonyi State from 2015 to 2023, during which his administration was highly recognized for extensive infrastructure development, particularly in road construction using concrete technology, and the establishment of significant projects like the King David University of Medical Sciences.

Before his governorship, he was the Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State from 2011 to 2015. He also briefly served as a Senator representing Ebonyi South Senatorial District in 2023.

Umahi’s political journey began with his role as Acting Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, later becoming the state Chairman. He eventually defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2020. His engineering background and focus on tangible infrastructure projects have been hallmarks of his public service.
