Formation Of Mid Western State In Nigeria, 1963

In 1963, the Mid-Western State was created in Nigeria on August 9th from the Western Region. It was formed by combining the Benin and Delta provinces. The capital city was Benin City. The creation of the state was a significant event, as it was the first time a region was created through a conscious act by an independent Nigeria, rather than during colonial times. The new state aimed to increase productivity in agriculture and industry and create a favorable investment climate.
