Nyesom Wike is a prominent and often controversial Nigerian politician and lawyer, currently serving as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) since August 2023. His political career is marked by a rapid ascent and significant influence, particularly within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Before his current federal appointment, Wike served two impactful terms as the Governor of Rivers State from 2015 to 2023. During his tenure, he earned the moniker “Mr. Project” for his extensive infrastructural development, including numerous flyovers, roads, and public buildings across the state. His administration also focused on education, healthcare, and urban renewal.

Wike’s political journey began as a two-term Executive Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area in Rivers State (1999-2007). He then served as Chief of Staff to the Rivers State Governor (2007-2011) and later as the Minister of State for Education at the federal level (2011-2014), where he initiated reforms in basic education. Known for his assertive and direct political style, Wike remains a powerful force in Nigerian politics.
