Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is a Nigerian statesman who served as the President of Nigeria from 2010 to 2015.
Born on November 20, 1957, in Ogbia, Bayelsa State, he holds a Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of Port Harcourt.
His political ascent began as Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State in 1999, rising to Governor in 2005.
In 2007, he became Vice President, and then President in 2010 following the death of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
During his presidency, Jonathan’s “Transformation Agenda” focused on economic growth, electoral reforms, and investment in critical sectors.
He notably oversaw the rebasing of Nigeria’s GDP, making it Africa’s largest economy.
His commitment to democratic principles was highlighted by his peaceful concession of defeat in the 2015 presidential election, a move widely lauded globally as a boost for democracy in Africa.
