Speaking on Channels Television, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, former governor of Abia State and current representative of Abia North in the Senate, accused some politicians, influential business figures, and top-ranking civil servants of financing and fuelling Boko Haram attacks for political gain.
“The political class is behind Boko Haram,” Kalu declared. “They are using terrorism as a tool to fight Tinubu, just like they did with past administrations.”
Kalu described the recent surge in insecurity as “politically induced”, claiming that it was a calculated move by power-hungry elites dissatisfied with Tinubu’s policy direction.
“These individuals aren’t always after money—many are after power. They want to break the system to grab control,” he added.
He further urged Nigerians to look beyond politics and embrace unity, stressing the need for national patriotism.
“If we consider ourselves friends and patriots, we should care about the ordinary Nigerian. We must work together to build a better country,” Kalu emphasised.
Kalu’s remarks followed closely on the heels of a deadly Boko Haram attack that claimed nine lives in Mairari village, Guzamala Local Government Area, Borno State, after the detonation of improvised explosive devices.
In reaction to the attack, Borno State House of Assembly Speaker, Abdulkarim Lawan, condemned the incident as “inhumane” and called on the Nigerian military to reclaim the area from insurgents.
Governor Babagana Zulum also expressed alarm over the resurgence of terrorist activities, urging renewed strategic action to secure the region.
