Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the NNPP and former Governor of Kano State, made this statement at his Miller Road residence while welcoming 1,230 returnees formerly aligned with the Waraka political group and loyal to Hon. Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila.

Kwankwaso declared, “I am always happy to receive people who believe in our movement, not because of financial incentives, but because of our collective vision for a better Nigeria. This is politics of ideology, not politics of the highest bidder.”

The defectors, drawn from Albasu, Sumaila, Bunkure, and Tofa local government areas, were previously supporters of Senator Sumaila who recently left the NNPP for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Kwankwaso commended their decision to return, stating it was a “significant step in the pursuit of progressive, ideology-driven politics.”

He reaffirmed NNPP’s commitment to issue-based politics, stressing that the party’s strength lies in its values and grassroots appeal.

Speaking on behalf of the returnees, Jamilu Zamba and Maryam Romo expressed renewed loyalty to the NNPP.

They cited Kwankwaso’s integrity, consistency, and dedication to grassroots development as the driving force behind their return.

“Our decision to rejoin the NNPP was not influenced by money but by conviction. We are returning to a movement that prioritises the people,” said Zamba.

The return of these members further solidifies the NNPP’s base in Kano South Senatorial District and reaffirms the relevance of ideology-based political engagement in Nigeria’s democratic landscape.
